Are Your Emotions Dictating Your Success?

Last week, I wrote a blog about the emotions of success. This week, I would like to give some practical applications.

When we start something new, it’s exciting. We envision all the possibilities proclaiming that we are going to be rich, happy, sexier and we can’t wait until we achieve our goals. However, when that initial excitement wears down, we are left with the work.

Dreaming about our goals is easier than actually working on our goals. Once we start working on our goals we invite fear, disappointment, frustration and other emotions into our life. If you are not feeling these emotions, then your goals are not big enough, and you need to dream bigger. Many people don’t go after their dreams because they are not willing to get hurt. Every goal is going to hurt you at some point or another.

Imagine a football player who is unwilling to get hit or a track star who is unwilling to pull a muscle. Yet, there are countless people who aren’t willing to go after amazing success because they don’t want to go through the emotional ebb and flow of what it takes to become amazing.

Let’s say two people start dating. At first, it’s exciting. They can’t wait until the weekend to do something fun together. They text often and talk on the phone a couple of times a week. At some point, they want to take the relationship to the next level. Their relationship becomes serious. With that new level of commitment comes new emotions. They have to get on the same page. They have to commit, not only to having a good time, but to supporting one another.

Any endeavor, from writing a book to opening a company to having a new workout routine to changing your life, requires an emotional ebb and flow.

One overlooked factor to amazing success is the management of your emotions. Achieving is an emotional investment. A critical factor to achieving amazing success is to not be beholden to your emotions. There will be times when you will do everything right and you don’t get your desired result. Your goals and your dreams will frustrate you at times. They will anger you at times. They will disappoint you at times. It is important that you manage your emotions in order to achieve amazing success.

I want to hear what you think. Tell me how you manage your emotions. Do your emotions get in the way of your dreams? If you like the article, please share on your social media channels.
