The Emotions of Amazing Success

A rarely discussed aspect of amazing success is the emotional intensity that comes with being successful. Many people often don’t go after their dreams because they don’t want to go through the emotions of success. The bigger and more audacious your dreams are, the more intense the emotions. People assume that amazing success will make their lives easier and less stressful. In reality, every emotion that you feel gets more intense.

According to Tony Robbins, international speaker and leading thought leader, people take action to either avoid pain or to seek pleasure. However, part of success is taking a hard look at what is wrong and trying to fix it.

As soon as you decide that you want more out of life, you are instantly inviting in new limitations and new challenges. Those challenges come with new emotions. For example, if you decide to take a trip that will cost $5,000, you will instantly have a new $5,000 challenge on your hands. Either you have to save up, you have to take it out of your savings or worse you have to put it on your credit card.

Every amazing goal has a gamut of emotions. Committing to a love, having kids, opening a company, writing a book or any amazing adventure is gut-wrenching. It is imperative that you learn to deal with these emotions. If not, your emotions are going to have the potential to dictate your actions and it is important to be in control of your thoughts. Your thoughts are going to dictate your actions. Your actions, in turn, are going to dictate your routines and habits. Your habits and routines are going to dictate your ability to have an amazing life.

Here is a list of emotions. If you are not feeling your emotions, then you are not even close to living out your purpose.

1. Excitement: Your dreams and, more importantly, the possibility of accomplishing your dreams should excite you. Spend a little bit of time with your head in the clouds and the rest of the time working on getting there. Part of the day should be working on activities that motivate and inspire you. Note- the motivation might not come from your professional life. It might come from wanting to do right by your family. If you can find excitement in your professional life, then that is an added bonus. Unfortunately, seeking excitement all the time is not a good recipe for success. With excitement comes the other emotions and the other emotions are not so exciting. Being excited is to be motivated. When you face some of the other emotions, such as fear and insecurity, it is important to have some sense of excitement to deal with those emotions.

2. Fear: We all have fears. That may be fear of failure, or fear of not being good enough, or the fear of success. If you are not scared by your dreams, then your dreams are not big enough. Also, humans have the fear not fitting in. The habits and routines of amazing people look weird to most. Oftentimes, we are scared that going after our dreams means that we will not be accepted by our peer group.

3. Disappointment: One person can do everything right and still fail. Another person can do everything wrong and still succeed. A salesperson can write an amazing proposal, have the best follow-up and not get the sale. Meanwhile, a different salesperson can get the sale while at a backyard barbeque. Disappointment is part of life. Amazing people can get disappointed all the time. There is a big difference between getting disappointed and getting discouraged. The more amazing you want to become, the more disappointment you are going to encounter. Amazing people know how to deal with disappointment. However, they don’t let disappointment become discouragement.

4. Frustration: Reaching amazing success can be frustrating. Your success is not only in your hands. It’s in the hands of your team, your network, your customers and the people that you deal with. Nobody has a perfect relationship or the perfect partnership. Let’s face it, people exhaust other people. If you deal with any limitations such as a physical limitation or a mental block, oftentimes it’s frustrating to constantly deal with issues that other people don’t have to deal with. We all have unique situations and frustrations that we feel nobody else has. In reality, everybody has those blocks or those emotions that they have to deal with.

Those are a few emotions that anyone will go through to become amazing. If you are not feeling these emotions, then your dreams are not big enough. There are times when you are going to feel bored, scared, excited or frustrated. There are also times when you do everything right and you fall on your face. It is important not to get discouraged. Everything should start and end with excitement. Your dreams and your goals should excite you. That excitement needs to balance every other emotion that you feel. Part of life is understanding and dealing with obstacles and challenges. These obstacles and challenges have a price. Part of that price is going through the emotional ebb and flow of amazing success. If your dreams are important enough to you that you are willing to go through emotions, then you are more likely to reach amazing success.

Summary:

Achieving success comes with its fair share of ups and downs. The various emotions that you will feel on the road to reaching your dreams are imperative to your journey. Without these emotions, your desire to achieve the success you wish to achieve in your life will not be as strong. If your dreams and ultimate goals in life don’t scare you, even a little, then you don’t want it badly enough. Navigating the excitement, fear, disappointment and frustration of successes is a natural progression to becoming amazing.
