The Process of Mindset Shifts
For the last few weeks, I have been talking about the power of mindset shifts. I have mainly focused on the psychology of the process. Now, I want to talk about something else.
When you make a mindset shift your life actually becomes more challenging. If you decide to eat healthy, you must resist temptations, buy more expensive groceries. There are other mindset shifts where the process isn’t so clear. For example, if you want to open a company or decide to write a book, the path is not as obvious.
I was fortunate enough that my first mindset shift was really direct. All I had to do was convince myself that I could have assistants help me out with my daily routine. The rest of the process was pretty straight forward. I simply needed to apply, find financial aid, find people to help me and so on. At the time, I thought these steps were challenging, but, when I look back, I see that these were pretty straight forward.
As I got older, the challenges that I took on and the mindset shifts that I made and continue to make have become more complicated. In 2016, I made the assumption that I could not make money online. I watched a lot of videos of Brendon Bruchard talking about online products. Although I liked what he was saying, it did not make sense to me. I did not understand how to run traffic. Then, I attended his event. At the very end of the event, he talked about Facebook ads. I immediately connected the dots and started to make that mindset shift. However, it took over two years to figure out the process. There were many moments when I questioned myself or I couldn’t find the right team members.
The bottom line is that the process is never going to be perfect. In fact, it might take you years to gain momentum. The process is not always straight forward. It’s challenging enough to deal with the emotions when the process is clear. It’s even more challenging when the process is vague or nonexistent.
There are several tactics to keep going and to figure out the process. First, develop a strong purpose behind the mindset shifts. When I decided to go to USC, I wanted to have more experiences. When I decided to create online products, I was driven by the desire to make money from my house and give experiences to my children. The second is research. I spent years talking to different marketing agencies. I watched over a hundred Youtube videos and paid courses. I worked with a couple of agencies that were not the right fit. The bottom line is that I never stopped trying. Third, I was always in action mode. I never stopped taking action. I had many setbacks, but I never stopped taking action. If it didn’t work out, I would try something else.
When you make a mindset shift, the world and the people around you are going to do the same things that they always do. Remember, the only thing that changed is your mindset. That’s more than enough to get on the path to amazing success.
